“I came to know Vargas when I went to check out the guys in Tantric a few weeks ago. I walked into the venue with one light shining on a man with a guitar and microphone and a voice that filled the room with so much emotion, pride and vocal levels that had the room silent as they embraced every word he was giving out. Otan Vargas, a poetic voice emerging from the depths of Tondo, Manila, brings to life the stark realities of his upbringing through stirring songs. Riddled with the struggles and aspirations common in one of the Philippines’ poorest areas, his music resonates with emotional depth and authenticity. Otan is committed to channeling his past into inspiration for the future, proving that even in despair, hope and artistry flourish.
Infusing raw emotion into every song that he sings, Vargas is a formidable artist whose music is defined by its simplicity and depth. His haunting vocals paired with the dark warmth of acoustic guitar present a captivating soundscape that speaks to life’s challenges. Drawing from his own experiences of struggle and recovery, Vargas crafts songs that resonate with themes of sorrow and resilience.
From humble beginnings as a means of personal therapy, he has evolved into a beacon of inspiration, using his music to touch hearts and ignite strength in fans around the world.
One of his songs "Hollow Destination" has been featured in a documentary film directed by Fran Strine called " Battlefield of the Mind." a film by Fran Strine (Hired Gun on Netflix) that focuses on US veterans who are suffering from PTSD and depression.
Since then, he has performed at many charity events that help US troops and their families, such as the Boot Campaign Foundation Event in Los Angeles, CA, and Oklahoma, OK.
He continues to be involved in many charitable events that support U.S. veterans, firefighters & first Responders and underprivileged children in the US and abroad.
On September 4th, 2022, Otan Vargas received a standing ovation after his performance at the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset, MA.
